BananaType was formed in 2006. Originally, the band’s name was Asparagus Band which consisted of Otrem Amago(Bass), Jegho Rey Grande (Vocals), Emman Basco(Guitars) and Robinson Asuncion (drums). Hometown: Taguig City. The band used to cover songs from Beatles, Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, Guns N’ Roses, Nirvana among others. They joined amateur contests (Battle of the Bands) in Taguig and Paranaque. Later on the band decided to make their own music invo lving original song compositions and sound experimentations. Otrem Amago, being the main composer of the group, took the place as the band’s vocalist and then Jegho Grande on bass. Mark Dave Espiritu, sharing the same influence with the members of the band, joined the group in 2008 and played as guitarist and second vocalist. After Espiritu joined the group, they changed the name of the band to BananaType complementing the band’s main influence, Eraserheads. The band name “BANANATYPE” is one of the Eraserheads EP album name. The band continues to write original songs and develops their sound and musicality. They already recorded demos of 12 original songs, 9 were full band recordings and 3 were rough acoustic recordings. BananaType continues to seek opportunity to penetrate local music scene by joining song writing competitions like Tunog Kabataan para sa Kalikasan of TV Juan and Muzikademy of Janice Hung Arts & Sports Foundation, Inc.
