CV of Eng D.B.Jayantha Ranatunga Eng Jayantha Ranatunga was born on 7th April 1945. He had his early education at Ananda College Colombo. At school he excelled in education winning several class prizes and maths prizes as well as co-curricular activities. He captained the college Hockey team, was a prefect and held membership of Judo club and Radio club. He Entered direct to the 2nd year of the university of Ceylon Peradeniya campus due to his coming within the top 20 in the island merit list. At the university he received honoures passes in all exams and was made an instructor. He later served the Thulhiriya textiles as its chief engineer, State Engineering Corporation as The Production Manager, National Research & Development centre as Principal Research Engineer and General Manager. He received M Eng Sc from University of New South Wales Australia on a Colombo Plan Scholarship. In his Research thesis he proposed a novel theory for transient thermosyphon flow in externally heated tubes which has now become the industry accepted principle. He served as the National Project director of the UNDP Energy Management centre. Eng Ranatunga was made the General Manager of the State mining & Mineral Development Corporation and later promoted as its Chairman.He was also a director of the Ceylon Electricity Board and of Ceylon Oxygen Company. Eng Ranatunga Served Serendib Coconut Products of the Aarhus Olifabrik Group of Denmark first as the technical director and later as the Managing Director. He also served as the CEO of Delmage Forsyth & Co (Paints) ltd. He served as the CEO of Dankotuwa Porcelain Ltd. He was a founder commissioner of Public Utilities Commission. He was made the chairman of the National Engineering Research & Development Centre in 2004. He was the Founder Director General of the Centre for Research & Development of the Ministry of Defence. He served as the Chairman of the Governing Board of the UN Asia Pacific Centre for Technology Transfer.He was the first chairman of the National Grass Root Invention Commission. He received a MBA from the Post Graduate Institute of Management. His research thesis is on Decision making styles of Sri Lankan CEOs. He served as the President of the Institution of Engineers Sri Lanka and as president of the Sri Lanka Energy Managers Association.He was also a past President of the Peradeniya Engineering Faculty Alumni Association. He had Published more than 35 Research Papers on Engineering, Management and Technology. Two of his peer reviewed publications published in the indexed journal of 'Solar Energy' have been cited by other researchers over 50 occasions. He also serves as visiting lecturer in Colombo, Moratuwa and Kelaniya universities on innovation, technology transfer,Social shaping of technology, Management and ICT. He has delivered key note addresses at Koici University, University of Ruhuna, WAITRO, WIPO, Indian Engineering Congress etc. He served as an International Judge for the Grand Awards at the International Science & Engineering Fare held in California 2010.Eng Ranatunga is an accredited adjudicator of the Institution of Engineers Sri Lanka. He is a member of the technology advisory committee of the National Science Foundation of Sri lanka. Eng Ranatunga received Presidential Export Award in 1988 for Excellence in Graphite Exports, National Science & Technology Award for efficient use of earth resources, Colombo Plan Post Graduate Scholarship to University of New South Wales Australia and was awarded an exception from the first year in engineering upon his superior performance at A levels in 1964.Eng Jayantha Ranatunga was awarded the 2011 Excellence in Engineering Award by the IESL.
