POTEB
POTEB, also known as POTE Ankyrin domain family member B, is a protein that has been sequenced in humans, chimpanzees, and macaques[1]. It is expressed by the POTEB gene located on position 12 of the long arm of chromosome 15 (Written as 15q11.2, and is transcribed from the reverse strand to yield an mRNA with 11 exons[2]. The acronym “POTE” stands for prostate, ovary, testes-expressed, and indicates the organs in which the protein is expressed. Aliases for POTEB are POTEB2, POTEB3, POTE15, and A26B1[3].
Gene expression
The POTEB gene has 4 splice variants. However, only the largest splice variant, which is 1.7 kbp in size, is encodes a protein with 544 amino acids while other variants do not express proteins due to nonsense mediated decay. i.e. Possessing a premature stop codon.
Protein domains
POTEB contains a cysteine-rich domain (CRD) motif at the N-terminal, seven ankyrin repeats, and spectrin-like helices[4]. There is a strong association with the plasma membrane, and the POTEB protein could be involved in catalyzing the release of fatty acids from phospholipids
