With his first Salsa CD on sale in stores and I-Tunes and winner of his first major award for “Tropical Music Revelation” at the award show Premios Sin Limite 2008, Javier Luis keeps on leaving traces in the contemporary music. This time he presents us with “Anthem to the woman” the first single from his freshman album debut. The song will be available in several versions although initially it will be a salsa, a genre that expresses the Caribbean roots of the singer. Born in Ponce, Puerto Rico and raised in New York City, his songs are described to have nostalgic memories united with pronounced romantic poetry. Puerto Rican composers such as Carmen Martinez, mother of the vocalist, and Alfredo Torres make up the fabric of Javier’s new album. Javier co-wrote several of the songs and vocally arranged some of the songs. The singer, composer, actor and dancer, Javier Luis, grew up listening to big interpreters of American music such as Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey and Brian McKnight, just to name a few. His Latin music influences are legends such as Celia Cruz, Hector Lavoe, La India, Olga Tañón, Huey Dunbar, Luis Miguel and Christian Castro. Aside from singing secular music, Javier loved and sang with a community Gospel choir as one of their principal vocalist appearing in New York’s Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center as well as performance in Boston, San Jose and Tampa. The vocalist was also part of a Jazz band for 2 years. Javier completed his B.A. degree in Music at Hunter College, as well as graduated from the Puerto Rican Traveling Theater with a degree in Music, Acting and Dance. His credits include songs like “Ladrona De Amor” feature in the Lifetime TV show “The Division”. Other credits include his songs such as “Alma Chapada A La Antigua (Old Fashion Soul)”, “Mi Otra Mita (My Other Half)” and “Ladrona De Amor (Thief Of Love)” selected as part of the sound-track for the movie “Salsa Lessons”. As an actor, his credits in major and independent films include the classic Carlitos Way, Martial Arts, Eleventh Day and Salsa Lessons. During the last year, Javier’s carrer has established a strong foundation. The singer appeared as a special guest at the anniversary celebration of Roberto Clemente “3000 Hits Of a Latin Legacy” along with Puerto Rican actress Rosie Pérez. He was also the opening act for Brenda K. Starr. Other concerts and festivals include the famous 116ths Street Puerto Rican Festival, the Mexican festival “Trades of the Sun”, a concert tribute to Héctor Lavoe and Hispanic Heritage Celebration month, amongst others. He is credited for his popularity as a boricua within the bi-cultural public. His religious values and his responsibility to the community has made Javier a charitable supporter as well as donates his presentations to three humanitarian institutions “Domestic Violence”, “Fight Against AIDS” & “St. Jude’s Children’s Cancer Hospital”. Javier’s’ song in his freshman CD titled “Himno A La Mujer (Anthem to the Women)” is very special to him because of his composer/mother who was not only inspired by her work at a Domestic Violence agency, but who also was a victim of emotional and psychological domestic violence many years in the hands of her x-husband when Javier was an infant until he was fourteen. The topic/song was written with the intentions to strengthen the women of the world so that they are able to break the chains of abuse, the singer explains.
