Owen (Eoin) Ó Súilleabhain is a singer, musician, composer and educator who also leads sacred tours in Ireland along with his mother, Nóirín Ní Riain and his brother Moley Ó Súilleabhain. Owen, along with his brother Moley, has released several albums including ancient and contemporary music, recently Fields of Grace - Celtic Meditation Music from the Heart of Ireland. Owen's parents Nóirín Ní Riain and Mícheál Ó Súilleabháin are both successful musicians who each in their own way are true pioneers of sacred Irish music. Owen himself has a wide range of musical talents from songwriting, playing guitar, singing sacred Irish music, to performing pop with his brother Moley Ó Súilleabhain in their cross-genre band Size2Shoes which features upbeat popular music and rap.
Biography
Owen grew up in Glanmire in Cork for the first eight years of his life and then the family moved to Murroe, County Limerick, the home of Glenstal Abbey in 1988 and to County Tipperary in 1993. When living in Murroe, at age 11 Owen sang Plain Chant with the Monks at Glenstal Abbey, and then with his mother Nóiíin and the Glenstal Abbey monks in 2003 for the album "Biscantorat." John O' Donohue and Irish singer Sinead O' Connor are also featured on the album.
Owen and Moley also performed with their mother Nóirín Ní Riain in an a capella vocal trio in 2004. They learned Gregorian chant and Irish sean nó (ancient traditional) song and many hymns from different traditions. Owen moved from Ireland to America in 2012. Since living in the United States, Owen has toured around the country as part of Size2Shoes. He and his brother Moley also conduct many performances and workshops around the United States, often incorporating music performance, public speaking, and storytelling .
Owen and Moley keep expanding their performances in the United states and are keeping very busy in 2019 with many performances in the U.S. They will be appearing on an upcoming episode in Season 4 of Connecticut Public Television's live music production The Kate in the spring of 2019.
Owen has a Degree in Philosophy at University College Dublin and a Masters Degree in Peace Studies from the University of Limerick. Drawing upon his studies of philosophy, Greek and Roman Civilizations, and peace studies, Owen has also brought his personal artistry and leadership style to business and academic institutions, such as the Stanford University Storytelling Project, eBay, and co-leads workshops with The Studio organization. Owen composed songs for The Teaching Channel, dedicated to improving teaching in America's schools, as well as composing songs for Stanford's Storytelling Project.
