Article Evaluation:

  • Upon brief review of the assigned article for Jean Blackwell Hutson, although the content appears relevant it is brief and presents as a sketched outline, and underdeveloped.
  • Paragraph 2 under "Early Life and Education" as well as paragraph 2 under "Career" both contain information and wording which could present as subjective.
  • Most citations appear to have been accessed via encyclopedias, I would like to add more references from professional journals related to the topic.
  • Reliability of citations to be further assessed.
  • Numerous keywords throughout the article are prominent enough to be linked to their Wiki page but are not, I would like to link important keywords.
  • Numerous grammatical and syntax errors were noted with this initial brief scan. Also the quality of writing may be improved.
  • Additional facts and information will be added as acquired with further research.

Confirming reliability of references:

  1. Unable to access to confirm information, attempted through link and through UMD library database.
  2. Able to locate reference, however misidentified position as "chief of the Schomburg Center" , correct to say "Chief of the collection at Schomburg Center..." also delete "to the standard where it is now" as Hutson has not been involved with this center since prior to her death in 1998. Introduction requires rewrite to improve quality of presented information.
