Hedges opened the 2013 season with the Class A-Advanced Lake Elsinore Storm of the California League.[1] After hitting .229 in the first month of the season, Hedges was sidelined with a bruised catching hand from May 3 to June 2. The break was a reset for the catcher, who hit .325 in his first month back from injury.[2] In July, he was named to the All-Star Futures Game, catching for Team USA.[3] The Padres promoted Hedges to the Double-A San Antonio Missions on July 31 to replace injured catcher Robert Kral. At the time of the promotion, Hedges was hitting .267 with three home runs and 26 RBIs in 64 games for the Storm.[4] He played in 20 Texas League games after the promotion, hitting .224 with eight RBIs in the process.[5] At the conclusion of the minor league season, Hedges joined the Peoria Javelinas for the Arizona Fall League (AZFL). He hit .273 with six RBIs in 21 games and was named to the AZFL Top Prospects Team.[6]
Hedges returned to the Missions for the start of the 2014 season.[7]
