Meresamun was an Egyptian women who lived around 800BC and acted as Singer in the Interior of the Temple of Amun.[1] Her mummy is currently housed in the Ashmolean Museum.[1] The nose of her cartonnage coffin has been repaired with AJK dough.[2]

Post mortem travels

Powysland Museum’s catalogue records Meresamun’s mummy as being gifted to Violet Herbert, Countess of Powis by Tigrane Pasha although its unclear when this might have taken place other than prior to Tigrane’s death in 1904.[3] By 1922 Meresamun was in the Powysland Museum which was transferred to the ownership of Welshpool Town Council in 1930.[3] In 1960 the council decided to gift Meresamun’s mummy to the Aashmolian.[3] The Nuffield Institute for Medical Research X-rayed Meresamun in December 1967.[3] Since 2011 her mummy has been displayed alongside a phrase that the ancient Egyptians believed that when said would help provide her with supplies in the afterlife.[4]
