User:Gary Sherborne

Gary Sherborne was born in Birmingham in 1962 and educated at Billsley Primary school until the age of 13 when because of family breakdown he was taken into the care of Birmingham Social services in 1976. He is one of four siblings, Yvonne, David and Ian Sherborne. His father Donald Thomas Sherborne was an only child to Thomas and Joyce Sherborne. Gary Sherborne spent the next six years in various institutions including Tennal Assesment Centre Harbourne, St Johns Community Home School Erdington, Forhill House, Eastwood Park Detention Centre and Feltham Borstal in Middlesex. Whilst at Tennal Assesment Centre Gary was subjected to multiple abuse from staff which 30 years later resulted in a class A law suit against Birmingham social services along with 92 other children who had been detained at Tennal between 1975 and 1980. as a result of the legal action, eight members of staff from Tennal recieved lengthy jail sentences. Gary now works as an IMHA (Independent Mental Health Advocate) citizen journalist and social inclusion activist in Boscombe, Dorset.
