Australian Cricket Society[1]
About The Society
The Australian Cricket Society is a fraternity of cricket lovers with branches in NSW, Queensland, South Australia and Tasmania. Founded in Melbourne Victoria in 1967, the Society promotes the spirit and values of the game of cricket through meetings, dinners and film nights.
Guest speakers at its Annual Dinners include Sir Donald Bradman, Lindsay Hassett, Bill Lawry and in recent years Ian Healy, Dean Jones, Damien Fleming, Justin Langer and Graham McKenzie. The Society supports youth and grassroots cricket with its Young Cricketer (male and female) and encouragement awards. Another award made by the Society is the Jack Pollard trophy for the most outstanding piece of cricket writing each year.
Each summer the Society publishes Pavilion magazine edited by Ken Piesse, with articles of interest to cricket enthusiasts. The Society also publishes a quarterly news bulletin - Scoresheet - edited by Wayne Ross. The Society's Wandering X1 is a regular participant in Golden Oldies and Vintage Cricket carnivals around the world and fields teams in Veterans Cricket Victoria for Over 60 and 70 year old cricketers
The Australian Cricket Society with the support of the Cricket Australia volunteer program established a charitable fund to assist disadvantaged people to play cricket.
