Gabriel Schoenfeld is an editor at Commentary (magazine) and the author of The Return of Anti-Semitism published by Encounter Books in 2004. Prior to joining Commentary, Schoenfeld was a senior fellow at the Center for Strategic and International Studies in Washington D.C. where he founded the research bulletin Soviet Prospects, subsequently renamed Post-Soviet Prospects after the collapse of the USSR. Schoenfeld's articles and book reviews have appeared in Commentary, the New York Times, the Wall Street Journal, the Washington Post, the Atlantic, the Los Angeles Times, the New Republic, the New Leader, and the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists.

According to Scott Sherman, writing in the Nation, an essay by Schoenfeld, Has The New York Times Violated the Espionage Act? in the March 2006 issue of Commentary, "has taken on a life of its own and has brought its author a certain degree of fame and notoriety."

Schoenfeld holds a BA from Sarah Lawrence College and a Ph.D. in political science from Harvard University. Together with the chess grandmaster Boris Gulko, Schoenfeld writes a weekly chess column for the New York Sun and the Jerusalem Post. Schoenfeld was born in 1955 in New York.
