Introduction: This part was brief and to the point. It talked about how religion affects where we stand in regards for ethical issues.
Protestant Christian:
p1: Brief intro to what branch of the church we are talking about. Statistics showing how many members are associated w/ this religion.
p2: Gave three quotes that support their stand on stem cell research. This religion is pro-stem cell.
p3: This paragraph talked about measures that the church wanted the government to take in order for this technology to be accessible to all.
Orthodox Church:
p1: Brief intro to what branch of the church we are looking at and added how many members are currently in this religion.
p2: In this paragraph two quotes are given to support their stand on stem cell research. Concept of Personhood.
p3: This group is against stem cell research. Summary of prior quotes.
Judaism:
p1: Stats on their membership. Judaism is pro-stem cell.
p2: Gave a statement from "Fundamental Theological Convictions (#3)." Explained quote and stated their reason for the legitimacy of acquiring embryos.
p3: Give support for federal and public funding of this research and also give warning not to try and create the "Ideal man" by means of cloning.
Catholic:
p1: Give stats on Catholic believers all around the world. Explain how they are divided up into diocese and state their order of importance from the highest authority (the pope), the Bishop, then the members of the church etc.
p2: Quote by John Paul II. Quote by Joseph A. Fiorenza, president of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops. Explain their position on this research (against stem cell).
p3: Stats from 2001-2005 on catholics and stem cell. Summarize their positions.
Islamic:
p1: Break down of the Islamic faith as well as stats on the total number of believers.
p2: Results from a study done by the Islamic Institute.
p3: Give reasons why they are pro-stem cell research. State that they are against cloning but for In vitro fertilization.
Hinduism:
p1: Give stats stating their followers. Introduce the fact that this community is the only one that is torn between pro-stem cell and those that oppose it (50-50).
p2: Cite a text from The Mahabharata that support those against stem cell.
p3: Give a text from The Mahabharata that support those for stem cell (Don't worry its not a typo. Both sides are using the same text to support their cause).
Conclusion: Haven't taught of it yet but it'll be a paragraph long to finish up the 7th page...
