Emmanuel Giakoumakis

Dr. Emmanuel Giakoumakis is the Chairman of the National Telecommunications and Post Commission (EETT) since his appointment in June 2000.

Born in 1958 in Iraklio, Crete (Greece), he received his undergraduate degree in Electrical/Electronics Engineering in 1981 and his Ph.D. in Informatics Engineering in 1988, both from the National Technical University of Athens.

His academic career started in 1990 when he joined the Athens University of Economics and Business. He is currently Associate Professor in the Department of Informatics.

Further to his academic responsibilities, Dr Giakoumakis has published an extensive number of works in the area of Computer Science. Moreover, he played principal role in the elaboration of studies pertinent to the adoption of Information Technology by major organizations in the public and the private sector as well. Moreover, he has contributed significantly in the drafting of programmes related to the introduction and/or the promotion of Information Society in Greece.

Prior to joining the National Telecommunications and Post Commission, Dr Giakoumakis, in addition to his academic career, served as:

- Secretary General for Communications at the Ministry of Transport and Communications, during 1998-2000. - Chairman and Managing Director of “Hellenic Information Systems S.A.”, during 1995-1997, and - Director of Informatics at the “Hellenic Agency for Local Development and Local Government S.A.”, during 1988-1990.
