Star Cops is an American rock band formed in Seattle, Washington in 2005. [1]
The band consists of vocalist/guitarist Rami Gore, bassist Elliott Abramczyk, guitarist John Pickland, and drummer Maxine "Max" Cotran. Heavily influenced by both 1980’s-90’s punk and 1960’s rock, their sound is described to be “a mix between The Zombies and The Offspring—highly exciting and highly enjoyable.”[2] After recruiting drummer Cotran in winter 2004, the group gained local popularity upon releasing their debut EP, Wild Night In With Star Cops the following spring.
After touring the west coast as an opening act for San Francisco-based band Whipper Can, and being signed to Raw Belt Records (an imprint of Warner Music Group) in summer 2005, the group returned to Seattle to record and release their first full-length album, Straight To Washed-Up. The album produced two hit singles, "Iron Lung" and "Prince Divided Down." Their 2008 follow-up King Is Dead peaked at number one on the Billboard 200.
In June 2010, during an exceptionally dark period for the guitarist,[3] Abramczyk launched a viral campaign by creating three websites imitating "Haters" of the band, and put audio links of three brand-new songs at the bottom of the pages, one per website.[4] The band’s latest album, Aufwachsen, released May 2012, received mixed feedback from most critics but raucous appraisal from their fanbase[5], liking the evolved sound. Lead vocalist Gore released a statement about further music releases in early 2014, saying on her Twitter, “Lots of writing, thoughts of recording. New music? I’d start saving up.”[6]
