Practicing creating an article...
Judge Pete Lowry As an undergraduate studying journalism and English at the University of Texas, Judge Pete Lowry received heavy encouragement from his peers and professors to pursue a degree in law. Judge Pete Lowry earned his Bachelor of Laws from the University of Texas at Austin School of Law in 1968. Having excelled in his classes and eager to practice law, Judge Pete Lowry became a law clerk for the Texas Supreme Court immediately following graduation. In this position, Judge Pete Lowry gained valuable exposure to the state’s most prominent judges and legal minds. His experiences as a law clerk helped steer Judge Pete Lowry toward a distinguished career as judge for the State of Texas. After spending a year working for the Texas Supreme Court, Judge Pete Lowry acquired a position as Partner with McGinnis, Lochridge, & Kilgore L.L.P., a prominent law firm based in Austin, Texas. Judge Pete Lowry served as Partner here for eight years, until he was appointed as judge of the newly formed 261st District Court of Travis County by the state’s former Governor, Dolph Briscoe. Judge Pete Lowry presided over litigation in the state’s highest trial court, rendering decisions and judgments for both jury trials and trials before the court. Judge Pete Lowry was chosen by 13 judges to serve a 7-year term as the Local Administrative Judge. Judge Pete Lowry performed as an exemplary judge for Travis County for nearly 25 years. In 2003, Judge Pete Lowry joined Judge James R. Meyers to form the law firm Meyers and Lowry. Judge Pete Lowry remained a partner at this firm for six years before entering retirement.
In retirement, Judge Pete Lowry has pursued several interests outside of his career in law. He has recently published several articles for the Austin based online magazine, Dog Canyon. His first piece reflects back on the summer of 1961 during the home run race that captured the minds of baseball fans across the country. In the piece, Judge Pete Lowry recaptures some of the magic of that summer through a combination of an exploration into the home run race itself and his recollections of his attention to the race. He caps it off with a memory of a day in the ballpark watching Maris and Mantle swat balls over the wall during batting practice.
His second article explores an entirely different topic. Judge Pete Lowry turns his attention toward his first experience owning goats. One day he happened upon the goats sneaking through a fence to his neighbor's yard. When he honked his car horn to try and prevent their escape, several fell over as if they had been shot only to get back up a few seconds later. Upon relating this experience to some farmers later, Judge Pete Lowry learned that he had a few Fainting Goats in his flock. A realization that stirred an interest in the condition and this fun article.
