An American independent record label founded in 2000 by Tyler Fenio and Kevin Brady in Brooklyn, New York. Devious Semantics, or often referred to as DEV SEM, have released an eclectic roster of bands into the New York City culture. Devious Semantics artist roster includes: We Are Scientists, Smite, and The Hermitt. Past releases include: Devious Semantics "Omnicron vs. Atomic Telefonic Regime" (Vinyl) 2000; We Are Scientists "Safety, Fun, and Learning (In That Order)" 2002; Smite “Capitalitis” (Compilation) 2002; Smite “The Second You Sell & Even Me Out” (EP) 2003; The Hermitt "The Story of the Insects" (Rodrigo Lopresti) 2003; Last Days (Gus Van Sant - Soundtrack) 2005; Devious Semantics Films "Lucia" 2005; Smite "Impossible Object" 2006; and Smite "Endless Nightmare" 2008. Devious Semantics morphed while retaining the same ideology from past projects to form a rock band, releasing the self-titled LP "Devious Semantics" in 2009. Since then, DEV SEM added singer Rebecca Panko and bassist Jon Provan. Recently, DEV SEM has encountered yet another lineup change - losing veteran guitarist/vocalist/songwriter Kevin Brady and adding keyboardist Nick Chapman, while Patrick Galligan remains the drummer. Brady left the band to pursue other projects, including teaming up with the Brooklyn-based band, The Bottom of Our Hearts, led by Alex Beard. It is said that the split was amicable, and Fenio and Brady -friends since childhood- remain close. Fenio describes the new DEV SEM lineup as being a mash-up of the Violent Femmes and The Cars.
