6.0) Weblearning (2003-2007) -Founded an ed tech start up

After our year off in the UK, we returned home to our flat in Chapel street. I launched a small ed tech start-up called Weblearning. Clients were local schools, universities and non governmental organisations. We also had our first daughter in 2005 and because I was working at home, Jean and I could be co-parents. 51°30′14″N 0°36′15″W / 51.503994°N 0.604033°W / 51.503994; -0.604033

6.1) Weblearning (2007-2010) Moved to Scottville

We needed a bigger house, a garden and less noise. So we moved out to Scottsville. Weblearning continued from the back of my garage, and I became increasingly involved in ed tech for pre-service teachers. The 2008 financial crisis hit a number of my clients and I found myself exploring new options, like Twitter, MOOCs and more formal work. 29°36′58″S 30°24′08″E / 29.61602246°S 30.402196°E / -29.61602246; 30.402196

I moved up to Johannesburg (by myself for the first six months), with the family following in December. As a member of MANCO, I assisted with elearning strategy and policy development and worked alongside Wits faculties and departments. Performance management, training & development for interns and student change agents.

Assisted with communication and support including documentation, helpdesk, tickets managment and incidents. I also joined a community of practice called Up2U which allowed those who did ed tech in universities to share their experiences. This allowed me to meet ed techies from all over the country.

8) Consultant (2016-2026)

As a consultant, I have worked with professionals, administrators, teachers, academics, subject matter experts, academic developers’, librarians and IT specialists in variety of settings. My intent has always been to build internal, local or sovereign capacity. I am comfortable with a project management life cycle and have operated in complex contexts where I've shaped change with individuals, groups, departments, faculties, universities and countries. My ongoing focus is on “open education” practices to develop digital capacity.
