Types of plant tissue
- Dermal tissue - forms the boundary between the plant and the external world
- epedermis - single layered group of cells covering a plant, especially the leaf and young tissues of a vascular plant, including stems and roots. It protects against water loss, regulates gas exchange, secretes metabolic compounds, and (especially in roots) absorps water and mineral nutrients.
- cork - external, secondary tissue impermeable to water and gases.
- periderm - secondary covering
- Vascular tissue - conducts fluids and nutrients internally
- xylem - primary water-conducting tissue
- phloem - the living tissue that carries sugar and organic nutrients throughout the plant
- Ground tissue - manufactures nutrients by photosynthesis and stores reserve nutrients
- parenchyma - forms the cortex and pith of stems, the cortex of roots, the mesophyll, the pulp of fruits, the endosperm of seeds, and the photosynthetic areas of a leaf
- collenchyma

- Meristematic tissue - a tissue in plants consisting of undifferentiated cells and found in zones of the plant where growth can take place — the roots and shoots
