Mr. David Kipkosgei Tarus was born in Kapserton Village, Nandi District in the Rift Valley Province of Kenya. In his early childhood, he went to Kapkatembu (now Kipkaren) Primary School from class one to class five, then transferred to Kamanyinya Primary school where he completed his Primary Education and joined Kapsabet Boys’ High School. Upon completion of his secondary education, he was admitted to the prestigious University of Nairobi to pursue a Bachelor of Science Degree in Agricultural Education and Extension. He attained honours degree and got employment at the African Agricultural Technology Foundation (AATF), to serve as a Programmes Assistant. He had opportunities to further his post graduate education, where he went to pursue professional course in Project Management from the Institute for Capacity Development in Windhoek, Namibia and Intellectual Property and Technology Commercialization at the University of California Davis (UC-Davis), USA. He later won international masters scholarship to study Master of Science in Managing the Environment (Risk Assessment of GM-Crops) at Aberystwyth University, Wales, UK and the University of Adelaide, South Australia. As a professional scientist specialised in Bioregulation and policy, David Tarus has been involved in the development of the regulatory environment for transgenic crops in Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) and also in the development of policy framework and regulations for Biofertilizer and Biopestcides. At the moment, he is a Programmes Officer at the AATF where he is involved in a number of efforts consisting of several organizations, to promote crop productivity in SSA through the access, adoption and sustainable use of agricultural technologies obtained royalty free.
