}} Before the Flood is the debut album by Swedish alternative rock band Junction Skies, released on August 10, 2010 through Dead Tree Music.
Background and recording process
Following the popularity of the band's previous outings (which up to the release of the album had been self-released and downloadable for free), the decision was made to record a full-length with the aim of getting a proper record deal. The album's recording process was stretched out over 3 months, starting in October 2009 and ending in January 2010. During this time, the band caught the attention of Jimmy Norberg of Dead Tree Music, who subsequently signed them to his label. The band collaborated with several well-known studio personalities when recording the album, including Göran Finnberg who has mastered albums by many successful bands from Gothenburg, such as In Flames.
Musical and lyrical style
The album borrows heavily from many genres, including gothic rock, progressive rock, funk, jazz and heavy metal. As such, it is perhaps best classified as an alternative rock record. Lyrics for the album deal with a wide range of themes but mainly retain a focus on the expression of feelings.
