User:Crestfalling/Why I edit

I usually edit anime and manga articles. Like many others, I started editing before I knew exactly why. A few months later, and after 3000 edits, I've gained a better understanding. I hope this user page inspires others who'd like to give some words to their motivations.

Fundamentally, I edit to try and create a positive impact. As such, my choice of topics is motivated by a few factors:

By how much can I improve the article?

This is simple enough. If an article is already comprehensive and well-researched, then the returns become pretty marginal. That's not to say such articles can't be improved, but generally, I work on such articles only if I've brought it up to that point and know exactly what needs to be done.

On the other hand, if there simply isn't aren't enough references to improve an article, then no amount of effort can generate additional ones.

How many people see the article?

What impact will the article have on the people who see it?
