Background
Colin Cosell is the grandson of legendary sports broadcast journalist Howard Cosell, and is currently a Public Address Announcer for the New York Mets, alongside Marysol Castro. Colin also does PA for the New York Riptide, Brooklyn Cyclones, and Stony Brook University Athletics.
Life and Career
Born in Stamford, CT, in 1979, Cosell is the youngest of four and the only one of his siblings to forge a career in sports and entertainment. He first became interested in announcing and performing at age 5 while watching his grandfather record a radio segment. By age 6, Colin began performing in theater productions, which he continued to do well into his 20's. Colin got his start in radio when he was 19 on an oldies station on Long Island, WLNG, filling in for an ailing Chuck Mackin on a show titled "Nightwatch." In his 20's, he began performing stand up comedy and doing voiceover work while returning to radio as a news anchor and reporter for WSTC/WNLK. By 30, Cosell had broken into sports broadcasting with a local network called MSG Varsity which focused on the high school experience, but primarily sports. During his tenure there, Colin would hone his skills as a sideline reporter, color commentator, play by play broadcaster, primetime show anchor, writer, producer, and narrator. Colin earned 12 Emmy Award nominations for his work on the shows "Model UN," "Model Congress," and "FIRST Robotics," winning 3 times. MSG Varsity would then vastly downsize, leaving Colin on a lengthy search for his next role. For several years after Varsity, Cosell went into bar and restaurant management in Manhattan and Queens, NY. He would then join some of his former MSG Varsity colleagues as a freelance broadcaster for Verizon FiOS1 Sports, eventually becoming the lead hockey broadcaster for the network.
Public Address Announcing Career
During this time, Cosell got his first break as a PA Announcer taking on the role for the New York Empire in the AUDL, all while continuing to bartend and manage in the service industry. While bartending, Cosell met and befriended a member of the New York Mets production staff, who would eventually tell him of the PA Announcer opening for the Mets at Citi Field. After a month-long audition process with hundreds of applicants, Cosell and Castro were hired. Cosell made his debut with the Mets on Saturday, June 2nd, 2018, with the Mets hosting the Chicago Cubs. Cosell has since voiced countless commercials and segments for the Mets, and created the Twitter phenomenon "Call Me Up Colin," where he would record ballpark-style call-up announcements for fans. Cosell then joined the New York Riptide as the PA Announcer for their inaugural season in 2019. However, the season was cut short by the COVID-19 pandemic. Cosell will return to that role for the 2021-2022 season. In 2021, Cosell became a part time PA Announcer for the Brooklyn Cyclones, the Mets High-A affiliate, and joined Stony Brook University's announcer roster for Baseball, Football, and Men's and Women's Basketball.
Personal Life
Colin resides in Center Moriches, NY, with his wife, Julia, and two dogs.
