Morön, Luleå.

Mörön is a village in Nederluleå socken in Luleå kommun situated 8 km southwest of Luleå and is by the coast.

History

The first settlement took place in 1772. The traditional occupations were agriculture, fishing and seal hunting. Previously, the village was located on an island completely surrounded by water, but land elevation has now connected the island to the mainland.

Mörön was named Village of the Year in Luleå Municipality in 2007.

Attractions

  • Mörön's Seal Hunting Museum is Norrbotten's only seal hunting museum. Seal safaris are also arranged from Mörön.
