NOTE: I've added what I found, but there isn't much to add to this page. There isn't a lot of information on the TCG in general, but some of the paragraphs are written strangely and I'll try and re-write them.

Intro

The Tunisian Combatant Group(Arabic: الجماعة التونسية المقاتلة; Jama’a Combattante Tunisienne, French: Groupe Combattant Tunisien) or TCG was a loose network of terrorists with connections to Al-Qaeda that was founded in 2000 with the goal to establish an Islamist government in Tunisia. According to the United Nations Security Council(UNSC), TCG is believed to have had terrorist cells in France, Italy, Belgium, Luxembourg, the Netherlands and in the United Kingdom. By the 2010s, after it's founders had been arrested and moved on and with a lack of incidents involving the group, it was not clear whether the still existed.

1 History

The group is considered inactive and this is due to the arrest of its founders Tarek Ben Habib Maaroufi and Seifallah Ben Hassine and the later foundation of Ansar al-Sharia by Ben Hassine.[1] There are not any figures for the number of members that were in the TCG, but the Ansar al-Sharia is thought to have up to 40,000 members.[2]

2 European Branches

In December of 2000, the Tunisian Combatant Group was suspected of plotting to attack the United States, Algerian, and Tunisian embassies in Rome.[1] This lead to a crackdown on the group by several nations and put pressure on the TCG. Just two day before the September 11th attacks, the group was found to have connections to the murder of Afghani rebel leader Ahmad Shah Massood. Massood was strongly against the Taliban in Afghanistan. Massood was killed by two suicide bombers impersonating journalists. In connection to the murder, TCG founder Tarek Maaroufi was arrested and charged with giving assistance to the two men who carried out the act with passports and stolen visas.[2]
