"Steffen is nearly a one-man machine, masterminding most of what makes up Perfect Melody. He wrote seven of the album's 12 tracks, co-wrote two others, and plays guitar and piano throughout. He also served as the art director and graphic designer for the project's excellent packaging, and even designed the record's website. With a little help from his friends, including Matt Wertz, Matt Mangano (John Mayer) and producer Steve Wilson (The Juliana Theory, The Class of 98), Lee Steffen's 'Perfect Melody' is an indie record that doesn't sound like an indie record.."
In 2015, Steffen produced and co-wrote "Hungry and Foolish" for MK Asante's Buck: Original Book Soundtrack. Okayplayer wrote:.
"Delivering realism as vivid as Nas‘ work on the seminal Illmatic LP, MK Asante has managed to churn out one of the most moving and visually brilliant rap projects to land in quite some time."
