Sweetwater Basin - Population: ~2517~ 1846 Once a shining jewel of the world's Confectionery industry, the city of aspiring Artisan candymakers; Sweetwater Basin finds itself situated on the edge of a small forest surrounding an even tinier lake for which their city is named. Growing nearby the water are large supplies of maplewood trees and sugar cane - the original namesake of the lake and chief exports of the town. Legends have spread of the magical healing properties of the pink-blue waters of Sweetwater Lake, drawing adventurers from near and far to offer tokens to the Spirit of the Water. The city finds itself in dire straights, being onset from the wood by an endless horde of small creatures the townsfolk have come to identify as Goblins. Locals are constantly raided by these barbarous creatures, having their valuable Sugar and Candies stolen from them. Unable to enter the wood for fear of Goblin attack and the mysterious haunting sounds of the night, the industry has begun to dry up. People have begun packing their lives and leaving. The head of Sugar High, the local Academy of Confectionery Creation, Dean Blackstrap Molasses, has offered a reward to any adventurer willing to step forth and try to save his life's work. Dean Blackstrap Molasses was born in a small seaside hamlet, and came to know the roar of the waves better than his own mother's lullabies. As a starry-eyed lad, his admiration blossomed into obsession, and he found himself aboard the first vessel that would bear him--even if that vessel and its crew weren't on the up-and-up with local law. The pirate life came easy, as did the spoils and the sea eventually lost its luster. For several long years, Dean was left with a hollow feeling in his gut and a perpetual anxiety. That is, until he discovered ambrosia on a far-flung tropical island: Sugarcane. His passion rekindled, he dove headfirst into cultivating his new treasures, sending him across the globe. It struggled to take root in all places but one - the water there was sweeter than any other he'd ever tasted. Leaving the sea behind, he established a new frontier on oceans of land in a cozy maple grove.
