Frederick F. Buechel, Jr. MD (born May 30, 1969) is an American born Orthopedic surgeon. He is Fellowship Trained in Knee & Hip Replacement from the University of Pennsylvania. He is best known for his contributions to the field of Robotic-Arm Assisted Partial Knee Replacement. He is an international instructor, surgeon proctor, and surgeon expert in the field of minimally invasive Mako™ Robotic-Arm Assisted Partial Knee Arthroplasty (RA-PKA). He has presented on this topic at international orthopedic symposiums and published manuscripts in this field. His book chapter "Robotic-Arm Assisted Partial Knee Arthroplasty (MAKO)", DOI 10.1007/978-3-319-15206-6_122-1, is found in "Minimally Invasive Surgery in Orthopedics, 2nd Edition.
He is the founder of the Robotic Joint Center™ which are international locations for RA-PKA performed by Dr. Buechel, Jr or those trained by Dr. Buechel, Jr. Dr. Buechel, Jr. began using this technology in 2009 and in conjunction with Mako Surgical Corp the company that developed the robotic technology, formed the "Makoplasty International Destination, Education & Training Center" in Naples, Florida in 2010.
Frederick Buechel, Jr., MD performed the first Mako™ RA-PKA procedures in Asia along with local surgeons in Hong Kong, Thailand, and Singapore in 2012. He then operated with local surgeons launching the systems In Greece in 2013, in Taiwan in 2014, in Australia in 2015, in China in 2016, and in Vietnam in 2017. He has trained hundreds of surgeons in the United States of America and internationally, and continues to provide surgeon training and proctoring as an international instructor for this robotic knee and hip replacement technology.
Dr. Frederick Buechel, Jr. is the son of Dr. Frederick Buechel, Sr. MD, a world famous orthopedic surgeon, inventor & author based in South Orange, New Jersey, USA, who is internationally known for many human joint replacement inventions and patents used today. These include the mobile bearing total knee replacement system called the "LCS Moblle Bearing Total Knee System", The Buechel-Pappas Total Knee System, Buechel-Pappas Mobile Bearing Total Ankle System, Buechel-Pappas Total Hip System, and the Buechel-Pappas Total Shoulder System.
