Andrew Conrad
Was a Canadian Track and Field and former Bobsleigh athlete. He has Coached Track and Field in sprints and hurdling for 28 years in Nova Scotia Canada and has helped produce numerous Provicial, Atlantic and National Sprint, Hurdle champions and medallists
Andrew was a sprinter and hurdler for 4 years in Ontario and 10 years in Nova Scotia. He was the Nova Scotian and Atlantic Canadian Indoor and Outdoor Champion in the 50 metre, 60 metre and 110 metre hurdles from 1990 to 1994 setting records in all three distances; some of which still stand to the present time.
Andrew represented Nova Scotia on two Canada Games teams, multiple Provincial and National Championships and one Canadian Olympic Team trials in 1992.
Andrew competed at Saint Mary's University from 1990 to 1994. As the team Captain (from 1991 to 1994) he was the AUAA Champion in the 60 metre hurdles (91-93) and as a member of the, then record setting 4 x 200 metre relay in 1992. He was a 3 time AUAA All star and twice winner of the Saint Mary's University Most Valuable Team Athlete. He was also nominated twice for the James Butler Award as Saint Mary's University's athlete of the year (1992 and 1993) narrowly missing the vote in 1993.
After graduation Andrew travelled to Calgary in 1994 to train in Bobsleigh with the Canadian National program. After suffering a torn achilles tendon he underwent surgery to return in 1995 and compete with the Canada#3 4 man sled. The team finished with a bronze medal at the 1995/96 National Championships. Andrew retired from athletics after further injury that year.
Andrew has pursued coaching Track and Field at the High school level, briefly at Charles P. Allen High school and then as the Strength and Conditioning Coach for the Saint Mary's Varsity Football team (1997-2000).
Then at Dalhousie University as the Sprint Hurdles Coach from 2004- 2009 and then again from 2014 to the present time.
Andrew is an NCCP level#3 Competition Coach in Sprints and Hurdles as well as a Strength and Conditioning Coach.
Andrew was inducted into the Saint Mary's University Sports Hall of Fame in 2008 as an Athlete and Coach; then again in 2017 as part of the Saint Mary's football team Coaching staff from previous Vanier Cups.
Andrew resides in the Halifax Municipality and continues to train University, National level and multi sport athletes.
