Carrot Cruncher

Carrot cruncher is a colloquial term [1]used in different parts of England, it is a reference in general to people who live in rural areas, the term being a reference to the country and the “propensity for Country Folk to crunch carots it is most often used in reference to regions where the local accent is very apparent.

The term is mainly used by City folks describing their more Country dwelling counterparts.


Examples

Norfolk/Suffolk – used to describe local folk who have the thick country accent of these parts (also called Country Bumpkins)

Hampshire farming community of Portsmouth, they are also known as Worzels. “Ize a wurzelling carrot cruncher from Portsmouth, ize is”

West midland term for an east midlander, due to their strange, rural ways and a propensity for crunching carrots. "Kettering, full of f*ck*ng carrot crunchers"

City dwellers will use the term in general for those who come from the country. "That carrot cruncher doesn’t even know how to do up his shoe laces."
