Bill Sanders' broadcasting career spans fifty years from his beginnings in 1957 at the age of thirteen to his retirement after 28 years as President of the Georgia Association of Broadcasters. In 2000, Bill was inducted into the Georgia Broadcasting Hall of Fame.

Bill has been involved in Georgia broadcasting in numerous capacities covering both radio and television on the local, state and national levels.

He began his career in 1957 at WKLY, Hartwell Georgia as a DJ and later Program Director while he was still in high school.

At the University of Georgia (1965 graduate with an ABJ Degree) Bill served as the voice of Radio-TV Public Relations for the University while he was a student. He created and hosted the University Almanac radio program heard on more than 160 radio stations throughout the state of Georgia.

In addition, he hosted University News on WGTV-TV, as well as numerous other documentary programs. He served as the voice announcer for all of the public broadcasting stations in the state during the 1960s. Following a stint at WSB Radio in Atlanta, Bill became News Director for the Northeast Georgia Radio Network, the state's first regional news network comprised of radio stations throughout Northeast Georgia. He was also News Director of WDUN AM&FM in Gainesville Georgia for seven years. During this period Bill won numerous news and programming awards from the Georgia Association of Broadcasters, the Associated Press and the National Association of Broadcasters.

Bill came to the Georgia Association of Broadcasters in 1975 as the youngest state broadcasting association director in the nation.

From 1980 to 1982, Bill served two terms as President of the Southeastern Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences. During his term as President, the membership of the Chapter grew by over 50%. In 1999, Bill was honored by the television academy with their coveted Silver Circle Award, which honors more than a quarter of a century of service to the television industry.

In 2000, Bill was inducted into the Georgia Broadcasting Hall of Fame, housed at the Henry Grady College of Journalism at the University of Georgia in Athens.

As President of the Georgia Association of Broadcasters, Bill was highly pro-active for the radio and television industry. He was instrumental in defeating a tape tax, which would have financially crippled broadcasters in the 1970s. He served as the Georgia broadcasting industry's spokesman for legislative issues affecting the profession and has been instrumental in the passage of numerous pieces of legislation positively affecting the television and radio industry of our state.

As an advisor to the Chief Justice of the Georgia Supreme Court H. E. Nichols in the 1970s, Bill was instrumental in changing the regulations to allow cameras in the courtrooms of the state of Georgia.

For eight years, Bill was the voice of the Upper Room for the Protestant Radio & Television Center in Atlanta and as such was heard on radio stations throughout the world.

Bill retired in June of 2003.

Bill is married to the former Marlene Murphy of Gainesville, Georgia. The Sanders have one daughter Karen and two grandsons. They live in Roswell GA.
