Introduction

My User Page

Why the New York Mets Wiki page?

I did the New York Mets Wikipedia page because they are huge interest in my life. I watch their games everyday even if they are bad just because I love baseball so much. And when I first looked at the content assessment of the Wikipedia page it was a C-class. Which made me feel obligated that the New York Mets have a good page. Behind the New York Giants they are my favorite sports team in the world. When I saw that they didn't talk about rivalries that I grew up listening to my Dad screaming at the TV when playing the Nationals. I just knew I had to add something about it because it was a big reason why I like the Mets.

What grade do I think I deserve?

I think I deserve between a 70-80 because I feel like I tried my best with this assignment but, there are somethings I understand why you would take my grade down. But, I think I added good things to the Mets Wikipedia in adding a new sub-heading for the Washington Nationals being a rival and also putting some references where they are supposed to be. I would understand lower but, I feel like I put too much time trying to find sources close to educational and other sources that I deserve a C to a B-.

New York Mets

1960s: Founding and first World Series

The first contribution I made was just adding a source and a sentence about William Shea getting invited to join the MLB after the Giants and the Dodgers both relocated to the West Coast. I did it because they didn't say anything about him getting invited to join the league right after the Giants and Dodgers left. And also they didn't add a source about it.

1970s: Second pennant and the "Midnight Massacre"

The second contribution I made was adding more information about the Tom Seaver trade which is one of the most important trades in all of New York Mets history. They didn't mention anything about any of the players we got in return for Tom Seaver. So I just showed the players he got traded for and why it was such a bad trade for the Mets. Also just making sure the source was right with the players because they didn't tag the source.

Rivalries

The last contribution I made was adding a whole sub-heading underneath Rivalries with the Washington Nationals. I think they didn't talk about this rivalry enough when it is very important for more modern New York Mets history. In the 2010s they were always getting into bench clearing moments and other heated moments. I thought it was important to highlight those moments between the newer Mets. This was my biggest contribution adding a whole sub-heading and paragraph about the Nationals vs Mets. I added 4 sources about the rivalry.

Wikipedia, generally

Comment on the sources you found from your annotated bibliographies. How did you contribute to articles as a result? Which sources were the most valuable and why? If you declined to use some of your annotated sources, why?

The sources I found for my annotated bibliographies did help me with editing the Mets page. It contributes to the article because all the articles I found about the history of the Mets and the their rivalry with Nationals helped me find more about the rivalry. Just going deeper and deeper into the articles helped me find good points to add to the Wikipedia page. The most valuable sources for me were the ones about the rivalry with the Nationals because that is what I edited with the most. The reason I declined some of my sources because just like you said to me it is hard to fix the Mets page. Some of the articles I found were covered in the article already, but they did help a little bit with making sure I was getting my information right. Because it would sometimes say the same things on different articles so I knew I was factually correct.

What did you learn from contributing to Wikipedia? What aspects made it meaningful?

What I learned for contributing to Wikipedia was finding sources that give me the exact information I want. I was able to search for the exact articles I wanted. Also writing more in a professional way instead of talking in bias helps. Because mostly when writing there is a bias behind the writing, but on Wikipedia you can't have that. It is just stating facts about the Mets that people might want to know instead of putting an opinion to actually like the Mets instead of another team. The aspects that made it meaningful is probably just working on something that I actually want to do. Some teachers just give work that I feel like isn't important while I get to work on my favorite baseball team. I thought it was good I was able to pick my category.

Did editing Wikipedia satisfy the course goals of CCII? Explain.

I think editing Wikipedia did satisfy the goals of the course because I still think you had us learning the same thing in a different way. I think going upstream and actively learning to find sources and add to source that is just for telling information is important to learn. I think it is good to learn how to find sources that work and how to write in a unbiased way instead of always just talking about yourself or a story about yourself. I think this taught me how to write better for when I'm out of college.

If you could do it over again, would you approach this project differently?

I might approach it differently with going with a different article just because it was hard to find scholarly sources with the Mets. I tried my best to find the best I could even if they weren't so scholarly. But, everything else I did with this project I don't regret because I had a fun time researching about the Mets and actually learning more about the rivalry with the Nationals while trying to find information to add to the Wikipedia page.
