Abdul Rehman Baitanai

Belongs to Katagran clan of Baitanai/betani/Bhittani’s, Serving State Bank of Pakistan as Joint Director (BPS-19) since 2005 He remained affiliated as Research Associate at Baluchistan University of Information Technology and Management Sciences-BUITMS at Quetta and as visiting faculty at BIZTECH Karachi. Born in 1979 in Baitanai Abad, Killi Nasran, Nawan Killi, Quetta. Got early education from Government High School Killi Nasaran and matriculation from Islamia High School, Quetta. Mr. Abdul completed his Intermediate degree from F.G Degree College Quetta Cantt then left for G.C.U Lahore and pursued Bachelor’s Degree. He managed to get admission at Harvard Business School USA but preferred to complete his MBA from Quaid-e-Azam University Islamabad. He has also attained LLB from S.M Law college Karachi. He is son of Thekedar Haji Jumma Gul Khan and Grandson of Mr. Muhammad Jan aka (Mamai Aka) (Late). His great grandfather Mr. Ayaz Nikka s/o Murad (Muradai) Nika was a pious person. He represented Pakistan from State Bank at global forums including but not limited to IMF, World Bank^[1]https://archive.doingbusiness.org/content/dam/doingBusiness/media/Annual-Reports/English/DB2019-report_web-version.pdf, Australian High Commission, Swedish National Police (2008) and IMF-STI Singapore. Mr. Baitanai has got exposure of more than 22 countries and loves his tribe and their traditions. According to Captain Robinson’s book “Notes on Nomad Tribes of Eastern Afghanistan” page 158 ibid, the Bhittanis/Betani or Baitanai’s (Katagram clan of Bhittani’s of Quetta), besides those who are settled in Jandola, Dera Ismail Khan and Bannu Districts and in the South Waziristan Agency there were three villages of Bhittani settled in Karabagh, Ghazni, making about one hundred families of Powindahs. The nomads live and migrated towards Kuchlak, Bostan and then Kotwal area of Nawan Killi Quetta around 1880’s and then towards Jamia Masjid Nawan Killi in 1920’s then finally settled in Nawan Killi Nasran in 1953. As per Robinson, there were total 30 families of Bhittani with the' Mian Khel, and 70 families scattered among the Nasar tribes. The Baitanai’s and Nasars of Quetta have been enjoying brotherly relations since ages. They have strong ties and family bounds with each others. These tribes used to spent all winter in the Dera Ismail Khan District. Their means of livelihood was the same as that of the tribes with which they live (Nasars).

Abdul Rehman Baitanai is a seasoned senior ^[2]official at Pakistan’s central bank i.e. State Bank of Pakistan (SBP). Having advanced education from Quaid-e-Azam University Islamabad, GCU Lahore and a portfolio spanning compliance, risk management, and policy and regulations, he plays a key role in core financial and regulatory operations at SBP. He occasionally participates in inter-institutional outreach and shares commentary on governance matters, AML/CFT Regime of Pakistan.
