The Surgery is an electronic music band formed in 2012 by songwriter, music producer and DJ Jonathan Shoesmith and record shop owner and DJ Alistair Hall. [1]
Producing electronic music primarily in the genre of Drum & Bass and Dubstep, Jonathan began producing electronic music at a young age following inspiration from his father's success with 1960's merseybeat band The Magic Lanterns [2] before becoming friends with Alistair Hall at college over a mutual interest in music and record collecting. They began producing tracks using samples taken from Alistair's extensive collection of vinyl which later became the grounds for record store Vinyl Resting Place in Affleck's Palace, Manchester. [3] [4] [5] Shortly after they signed a track to digital counterculture collective Marionette Records, a Manchester based Breakcore label managed by Owen Lytton and artist and record producer Gore Tech [6], DJing and performing at various venues across the UK under the alias Surger before later forming The Surgery. Their first release received airplay and praise from the BBC's Alan Raw, who regularly played their music on his show followed by mainstream US air including Atlanta's Kiss 104 in 2015. [7] In 2019 they remixed The Prodigy's "Timebomb Zone".
In 2017, Universal Records submitted the band's single "Can U Feel It" for television and commercials.
