More Mesa Beach, Santa Barbara, CA
One of Santa Barbara's most secluded beaches can be found at the edge of a large open space called "More Mesa." More Mesa is in unincorporated Santa Barbara County (between the cities of Santa Barbara and Goleta). More Mesa is frequented by low-flying airplanes because it is directly below the westbound descent path for the neighboring Santa Barbara/Goleta airport.
Location
From Turnpike and Hollister, take Hollister south one mile to Puente. Turn right onto Puente. After one-half mile, turn Left on Mockingbird Lane (there is no parking on Mockingbird Lane). Where Mockingbird Lane ends, there is a trailhead for a dirt path across the mesa. The path is flat, around 1/4 mile long, and sometimes muddy. It ends at the top of steep natural stairs that go down to the beach.
Nude Designation
Mostly by word of mouth and the internet, this beach has been unoficially designated a "nude beach". When exiting the bottom of the stairs, nudity is "suppposed" to be restricted to the right side.
Controversy
In the past, Santa Barbara County Sheriffs have visited the beach to restrict lascivious behavior. Lately, however, they have stayed away.
