I am an astrophysicist and professor of Astronomy and Astrophysics at UC San Diego where I direct the Cool Star Lab[1]. My scientific research focuses on low-mass stars, brown dwarfs, and extrasolar planets, leading development of the T dwarf class of brown dwarfs and co-discovering the TRAPPIST-1 planetary system. I also conduct research in physics and astronomy education, particularly video-based learning, AI-enhanced learning, graduate skill development, and art-science collaboratories.
