Does it work with the usual variety of ship-name forms?

Does it work with missing or empty {{{2}}}?

Does it work with existing work-around code?
- Photo gallery of USS Houston (CA-30) at NavSource Naval History no nationality or prefix;
This works because it, in effect, mimics the operation of the old {{navsource}}. The {{noitalic}} work-around causes the tests in the new version for fail so the positional parameter {{{2}}} is treated like it doesn't have a proper ship prefix.
{{noitalic|USS}} Houston {{noitalic|(CA-30)}}→'"`UNIQ--templatestyles-00000011-QINU`"'<span class="noitalic">USS</span> Houston '"`UNIQ--templatestyles-00000013-QINU`"'<span class="noitalic">(CA-30)</span>
Compare old and new with {{noitalic}} work-around:

Does it work with this variety of work around?

Sort of. Still readable and doesn't display an untoward amound of markup.
