Talk:Works team

Motorsports section

I have removed the section on motorsports ("In motorsports, works teams are factory-backed, and drivers are called 'factory' or 'works' drivers.") They are significantly different things, and it's confusing to have that in this article. A works team traditionally comprised workers from the workplace/factory, and were generally created to enhance employee morale, whereas the motorsports variant is merely a sponsorship arrangement. A factory-backed motorsports team is one that is sponsored by a "factory" but the drivers are part of the team, not the "factory". The waters are muddied here with the use of the term factory, which is used in motorsports to denote the vehicle manufacturer. Given the similarity of terms, I've added a hatnote to point to the motorsports variant. Nzd (talk) 17:05, 3 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

the hatnote at Factory-backed seems to imply that factory-backed team and works team are synonymous in motorsport, and the Works team article is non-motorsport only. both articles need some more clarifying editing in this respect, as their contents are confusing and contradicting as they are. what should be the exact scope of both articles?
