Ultima Thule as the antipodes to Thule

Noting (para 2 of article) "By the 19th century, however, Thule was frequently identified with Norway, Denmark, the whole of Scandinavia (etc.)" it is relevant to note that the antipodes to these locations (being the 'ultima' or furthest point possible to be from them) is in the high latitudes of the South Pacific Ocean SE from New Zealand. As such the concept of 'Ultima Thule' was, principally in the 19th century during early European exploration and colonisation, sometimes applied to New Zealand and Australia. An example is provided in a book written by Thomas Cholmondeley - a British aristocrat and sheep farmer in New Zealand during the early 1850's: "Ulima Thule; or, thoughts suggested by a residence in New Zealand", John Chapman, London 1854.
