Talk:Reset button

Untitled

Does anyone know who invented the symbol itself, or why they chose that particular image? Is it just an arbitrary emblem? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Derwos (talkcontribs) 13:12, 12 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Some notes

On personal computers,[NB 1] the reset button clears the memory

I'll have to check for actual IBM compatible PCs, but the C64 or the Amiga computer did not clear (erase) the RAM on reset.

Many newer computers have no separate button for resetting the computer, it is integrated with the power button.

No it isn't. In other words: citation needed. OK, in the following sentences it clarifies the claim a bit, but I maintain that there is no such "integration". The power button can be assigned any software action.

Soft?

In my whole life I've never seen a personal computer with a "soft" reset button; they all suddenly shut down everything the moment it's pressed, and stay that way for as long as it is held; or on a few cases at most makes the cooling fans go full power, while the rest of the system is held in the initial stages of boot (not even sending information to the displays), for as long as the button is held. --TiagoTiago (talk) 16:10, 27 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

This article has so many false information that it would be better if it was deleted.

  • On personal computers,[NB 1] the reset button clears the memory and reboots the machine forcibly

Not correct, no source for "clears the memory".

  • This button can cause data corruption so this button often doesn't exist on many machines.

Oh yeah, including this button will cause data corruption, really? haha

  • Personal computers

The whole section contains misinformation, no source, and INCORRECT information. I dont have the power to fix it, but it will be better if the whole section is deleted.

  • The ICON

Yeah, "most devices". No reference. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Athalien (talkcontribs) 16:04, 7 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
