Talk:Point Bonita Lighthouse

Untitled

I find it hard to believe the comment about the suspension bridge being a replica of the Golden Gate bridge, considering that the lighthouse was moved to its current rocky location in 1877, and the Golden Gate was not opened until 1937. That said, this factoid is published on the Coast Guard's list of California light houses that they still maintain, but I still don't buy it. Just wanted to stick this in here! If I remember my 6th grade Science Camp trip correctly (where Point Bonita was one of the places we visited), I think the "Golden Gate" bridge was a replacement for the original lighthouse bridge, built (obviously) sometime after the real Golden Gate Bridge was built. Perhaps sometime in the 50s or 60s? I don't remember when, but I do recall our guide saying the original bridge was damaged and had to be replaced by the "newer" ones. Something I'm looking for, and as far as I can tell is unmentioned and un-Google-able anywhere on the web, is the history and use of the two unreachable-by-the-public structures underneath the Lighthouse & the fog horn building. The lowest one *looks* like a World War II-era bunker. Details like this would be a great addition to the Wikipedia page. Dautermann (talk) 17:14, 28 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Update: new LED at the lighthouse

Coming home from the South Bay a few months before this post, I could see from the Golden Gate that the signal from the lighthouse is now LED. I couldn't tell if the Fresnel lens was still there as it was too dark and the lighthouse was too far away. Is this worth mentioning in the article?
