POSIX subsets
This should include the different subsets of POSIX. For instance, POSIX 2003 is the newest one, and only IBM AIX passes that one. Stuff like that should be mentioned. Someone who knows more about these things should add to the article!
FIPS-151 certification
My understanding is that the various FIPS-151 standards were based on the POSIX standards, but controlled by the US government (specifically NIST). Should operating systems certified as POSIX-compliant according to NIST standards be listed in this article, or is this purely about operating systems certified according to the Open Group POSIX? Is there a value in this distinction? Vt320 (talk) 10:34, 14 August 2022 (UTC)
What are the "Process Triggers", which are supposedly part of POSIX.1-1988 supposed to be?
In my FIPS 151-1, IEEE Std 1003.1-1988 PDF, "trigger" doesn't appear once. I'm not aware of anything remotely similar in modern POSIX ("trigger" appears, but as prose for behaviours being triggered by something happening), or in any contemporary UNIX. What is it supposed to be? Nabijaczleweli (talk) 18:03, 17 July 2024 (UTC)
- This seems to be added in https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=POSIX&diff=prev&oldid=325453366 with no comment and no source.
- I'm reverting this.
- The same applies to "I/O Port Interface and Control" which appears in original https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=POSIX&diff=prev&oldid=29248632 addition. What could it possibly mean? Nabijaczleweli (talk) 18:19, 17 July 2024 (UTC)
- Terminal I/O stuff (termios, etc.) from "7. Device- and Class-Specific Functions"? Nothing else comes to mind. Guy Harris (talk) 10:32, 27 July 2024 (UTC)
- I see how there's a universe where you see that and decide it's about "I/O ports". Unfortunately it's not our universe, so I've replaced this with the POSIX terminal interface. Nabijaczleweli (talk) 18:34, 22 August 2024 (UTC)

Misleading Language About Selection
FTA: "Unix was selected as the basis for a standard system interface partly because it was "manufacturer-neutral"."
UNIX wasn't "selected" in any fashion, standardization efforts were already under way in the context of the /usr/group standard, which is the work the IEEE 1003 project was based on. UNIX standardization was already a hot topic, there wasn't really some org or committee out there fishing for an OS to base a portable standard on, rather, there was a standardization effort in need of a major sponsor, so naturally UNIX meets IEEE and POSIX is born of the union. It might be prudent to update this section to not mislead anyone into believing there were other operating system candidates being considered for what eventually became POSIX. 71.231.36.22 (talk) 20:35, 15 August 2024 (UTC)
- Fair enough. What do you propose? Stevebroshar (talk) 13:11, 6 December 2025 (UTC)
