Talk:Operation Salam

"Popular Culture" paragraph

Reading this article, surely Operation Salaam and Operation Condor (and the two german speis) were the basis for Ken Follett's early 1980s novel "The Key to Rebecca"...Anybody object to that being added? Engr105th 22:35, 30 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Nature of the article

This article seems to be a retelling of the book Operation SALAM, which appears to be of unknown scholarly value. If this operation is to be considered notable, additional, WP:RS sources are needed to substantiate this article. Please let me know of any feedback. I now have a physical instance of this book. It appears to me to be a careful work of scholarship, well-sourced, etc. I have not checked all the references, but would be happy to spot-check those to materials which I have (the ones to physical archives I am in no position to check), if anyone is still concerned about the reliability of this work. It is generally in alignment with other works on this topic (albeit in much more detail), which I am all familiar with. Noel (talk) 15:15, 20 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Mosley book

The article describes the 1958 book by Leonard Mosley, The Cat and the Mice, as a "novel". I do not think this is accurate. The book nowhere describes itself as a novel; in fact, it gives the details of how Mosley tracked down Eppler after WWII (presumably to get his side of the story). It does say that Mosley had to eliminate "some details" and change "some circumstances and names" .. "for security reasons".

Most of the people named in it are real and recorded (e.g. Hekmath Fathmy, and Alfred Sansom). I don't have time to provide cites to other details I have seen elsewhere (e.g. the role of the Jewish Agency personnel, the capture of the German radio team attached to Rommel's HQ, and the fake map with the bogus 'good going' markings), but everything in it mostly checks. One review certainly treats it as non-fiction.

Summary: it may not be entirely reliable (viz. change "some circumstances and names .. for security reasons") - and then again, almost any source has some errors - but it's certainly not fiction. Noel (talk) 20:05, 23 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
