There has been more work done in this area by William Jaco and Hyam Rubinstein as well as Abigale Thompson and others I am sure. It should be referencenced. There are also several texts available.--Okieinexile 03:20, 13 December 2006 (UTC)
Algebraic Geometry
As far as I was aware, a normal surface was one where the sheaf of holomorphic functions was normal, i.e. each local ring of holomorphic functions is normal.
A necessary and sufficient condition for this is that the surface has only isolated singularities, and that each local ring of holomorphic functions is Cohen-Macaulay. Dharma6662000 (talk) 18:50, 23 July 2008 (UTC)
- Perhaps at some point we'll need a normal_surface_(topology) and a normal_surface_(algebraic geometry) ? Rybu (talk) 20:14, 18 August 2010 (UTC)
