Thickshake?
In the UK anything with or without icecream is called a 'milkshake'. Perhaps there is a particular brand which says it is a 'thickshake', but never would you walk into a cafe and ask for a 'thickshake'. Where on earth did you get that from???
"Frappe" was also used in the Pacific Northwest (Seattle) as recently as the 1980s.
Most likely this is where Starbucks's beverage "frappuccino"'s name came from. (A blending of a 'frappe' [shake] and a cappuccino.)
That this extraordinarily important bit of food culture is left out of the article is SO TYPICAL OF WIKIPEDIA. (And yet my edits are reverted and auto-reverted.) 138.88.43.77 (talk) 19:38, 7 January 2025 (UTC)
Ray Kroc
(A related issue has been discussed above.)
Loriendrew: You restored this sentence, which I removed:
In the 1950s, a milkshake machine salesman named [[Ray Kroc]] bought exclusive rights to the 1930s-era Multimixer milkshake maker from inventor Earl Prince, and went on to use automated milkshake machines to speed up production at [[McDonald's]] restaurants.<ref>[http://www.jyi.org/volumes/volume7/issue1/features/cull.html Happy Meals in Kitty Hawk: How the Wright Brothers Spawned a Burger Nation] {{Webarchive|url=https://web.archive.org/web/20031004042247/http://www.jyi.org/volumes/volume7/issue1/features/cull.html |date=October 4, 2003 }}. Jyi.org. Retrieved on October 10, 2013.</ref>
There are several issues with this. Kroc was not, as this implies, solely a milkshake machine salesman; he sold all sorts of things and was even a pianist. That is a minor issue though. He did not buy the "rights to the Multimixer" from Prince. He demonstrated the machine to the Lily Tulip paper cup company, and one of their distributors bought distribution rights; it's misleading to even say that he bought the rights from them. He most certainly did not do any of this in the 1950s (the source actually does not indicate this at all).
To say that he "went on to use automated milkshake machines to speed up production at McDonald's restaurants" is very dubious. For one, there were no "McDonald's restaurants"; there was one restaurant in San Bernardino. It also implies a much more active role. He did sell them eight Multimixers, but the phrasing makes it sound as though he was specifically tasked with improving efficiency at McDonald's or something similar.
So, as I said, this is inaccurate on several counts. I have therefore reverted your reversion. Please indicate how the sentence "seems appropriate per ref" before restoring again, and note that the source provided does not seem to be of the highest caliber. - Your edit summary of "this is not quite correct in several ways" was inadequate to remove properly sourced content. If it was based on talk page consensus, you should have stated so in the summary.--☾Loriendrew☽ ☏(ring-ring) 20:12, 16 October 2025 (UTC)
- It was not properly sourced, and my removal was not based on talk page consensus. If you had read what I wrote or the edit itself, you would know that. XabqEfdg (talk) 07:12, 17 October 2025 (UTC)
