Cleanup

  • I made some effort to clean up this article. I added a city infobox to it, rewrote some of the text and did some other small chages. It still needs some work and references. More demographic information would be useful as well. --Lendorien 21:05, 11 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Lusaka City & Lusaka District

Is the City of Lusaka coterminous (shares the same boundaries) as Lusaka District? If so, there is no way that this district only measures 70 square kilometers. The city's own website seems to point to the city/district being at least 139 square kilometers. Perhaps only 70 square kilometers of it is developed, but the that would be a physical measurement or the urbanized area. --Criticalthinker (talk) 05:35, 26 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

@Criticalthinker, nice to see that somebody has asked this important question. At present, this article has got 360 square kilometres written as the size of the city (supposedly citing the city council's website) while the Lusaka District article has got 418 square kilometres written (citing the last census document to be published in Zambia).
So, it has made me wonder why Lusaka and Lusaka District should have the same population indicated if they can't have the same area indicated. It just does not make sense. Even the figure that is currently showing for "Metro" is debatable, as the number showing there most-likely includes the figures for "neighbouring districts" and not Lusaka District alone.
For starters, that "Metro" figure is going to be removed by me just now, as we do not need the numbers for "places that are not Lusaka" to add to any figures in this article. For the "Area", I will write what is written in the 2022 Zambian census document, which is 418 square kilometres (I will remove the "360" currently showing there). 'Southern Africa'

Speaking as someone born in Zambia, it's usually described as 'a landlocked nation in East Central Africa'. Mike163 (talk) 12:11, 6 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

That was true, but since the SADCC, now SADC, was formed, it's become more common to say southern Africa. Same with Malawi.
