Updating Lady Gaga's sales

Lady Gaga has sold over 110 million equivalent albums, 758 million singles and generated over 175 billions streams since her debut, from Universal Music press release ChrisVCT (talk) 11:26, 11 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Universal Music is not a reliable source to discuss sales or certifications. Tbhotch (CC BY-SA 4.0) 01:58, 12 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]
I believe those figures are inflated and press releases by labels are not third-party sources. 143kittypurry (talk) 02:05, 12 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Not a reliable source. I saw her record sales on wiki and being in the industry I know it’s a lie and inflated. I would be surprised if she sold 50 million frankly. ~2026-81016-2 (talk) 05:35, 27 March 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Gaga’s reported record sales as of 2025 are 170 million. Several sources below but for some bizarre reason this page remains not updated.

Gaga's total certified units stand at around 168 million worldwide as listed here. Take note that some of these certified units are generated from streaming so I do not think the ratio of her certified units and claimed pure sales of being 1:1 is acceptable. Also, editors must gather consensus before making any changes on claimed sales of any artist on the list. 143kittypurry (talk) 07:18, 23 April 2026 (UTC)[reply]
I was simply highlighting Wikipedia is incorrect. Using out of date certs and personal opinions won’t really change that, as we’ve had this discussion before. SpearsRR (talk) 12:17, 23 April 2026 (UTC)[reply]
The figure of 124 million pure sales for Lady Gaga is based on an established consensus within the archives of the list. I suggest you propose your changes there first to reach a new consensus before updating the sales figure here. 143kittypurry (talk) 12:27, 23 April 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Before making updates, we would need sources that don't conflate album equivalent units with pure sales, and it's a false equivalence fallacy to treat them as the same thing. SNUGGUMS (talk / edits) 16:46, 23 April 2026 (UTC)[reply]
The publications above listed by @SpearsRR quote the sales figures of 170 million being pushed by Gaga's label in recent years. The 124 million sales figures largely reflect pure sales reported between 2014 and 2022. Given the music industry's heavy shift toward streaming-equivalent units, it is unlikely her pure sales have seen a significant increase from 2022 onwards. 143kittypurry (talk) 17:46, 23 April 2026 (UTC)[reply]
That list is benchmarked by certified sales that are literally streaming units converted to record sales. I’ve provided credible sources for Gaga’s record sales, but only to highlight that this article (and that preciously guarded list) have an outdated figure. SpearsRR (talk) 23:36, 23 April 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Certifications often contain streams and thus aren't synonymous with actual sales either. Did your provided links only base their claims on what they got certified for, or a combination of streaming equivalents plus copies sold? If so, then that's probably why they got rejected. SNUGGUMS (talk / edits) 00:09, 24 April 2026 (UTC)[reply]
BBC News is used as sources for total record sales for several comparable artists on the list. Others have far less reputable sources, and all of course give a single total of records, not broken down by format. As I've said, it's clear the 124 million is outdated (Gaga has very likely sold more digital singles alone than this); I'm simply highlighting Wikiepdia remains incorrect as a result. SpearsRR (talk) 11:44, 25 April 2026 (UTC)[reply]
The 124 million figure isn't about a specific source, but rather a consensus among editors who have analyzed Gaga's certifications and sales data on the list. Gaga's total certified units currently stand at approximately 168 million. Claiming 170 million in pure sales would imply a 1:1 ratio with certified units, which is mathematically impossible given that a significant portion of those units comes from streaming. If you'd like to propose a change of this scale, I suggest opening a discussion on the talk page of the list. 143kittypurry (talk) 14:06, 25 April 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Obviously under-certification is an issue for Gaga’s catalogue. But as expressed above, the certs are streaming-inclusive and so using them to benchmark a list that is proposing to only include pure sales makes no sense when continued increases on those certs will largely come from streams unless a lack of routine updates has occurred up until this point. Starting this conversation will result in the same outcome, an outdated figure being used incorrectly. Again, just pointing out this inaccuracy on a featured article. Gaga surpassed $1 billion in touring revenue

Probably worth including. Pollstar reports Gaga’s career total are over $1.17bn from 8.6 million tickets.

The Fame Monster

Not adding The Fame Monster in her discography section is criminal ~2026-27561-40 (talk) 06:25, 7 May 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Agreed, it was there for 15+ years, until one editor inexplicably removed it earlier this year. It's now fixed. Sricsi (talk) 08:03, 7 May 2026 (UTC)[reply]
