Another editor has removed this sentence...
"(Where rearranging components from two-dimensional media such as starship schematics may be seen as a lack of creativity and effort.)"
That's my rework of an idea that existed before I did a copy edit.
I agree with deleting the sentence, in one sense, but do not, in another sense. In a good part of art and craftsmanship it's difficult to establish exacting standards. Yet those standards do exist, and are rigorously (if not consistently) applied by the community. In the art world, critics and art historians wallow in verbiage that isn't provable. Yet in the kitbashing article, we have a statement that is fairly objective. I.e., using starship schematics isn't as much as a tour-de-force as reworking kits to conform to real world machines. In a way, that's a very objective statement: The community doesn't respect people (as much) when they ... (fill in the blank).
But there's something wrong with a policy that won't allow -- to pick an extreme example -- an article to say that three-year olds have no ability to kitbash. Or that certain kitbashing is more readily accessible to beginners. Maybe that's what to say about the starship kitbashers?
