Korean War Veteran?

AS he served in the Pacific Ocean on a combat submarine in 1951 as executive officer, he should also be listed as a Korean war Veteran. ~2025-43618-79 (talk) 06:19, 19 March 2026 (UTC)[reply]

USS k-1 was a USA combat submarine in 1951. The Pacific Ocean was considered a war zone June 25, 1950- July 27, 1953, during the Korean WAR. AS Carter was executive officer of that Submarine, he is without a doubt a Korean war veteran. ~2025-43618-79 (talk) 19:12, 20 March 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Do you know of a reliable source that explicitly says that he is a veteran of the Korean War? One indication would be if he received the Korean Service Medal . Do you know of a reliable source that says that the whole Pacific Ocean was part of the Korean War zone? I would be very surprised if military personnel stationed in Hawaii were considered Korean War veterans, for example. Donald Albury 21:20, 20 March 2026 (UTC)[reply]
The Pacific Ocean is a combat zone as North Korea had an active sub force in the pacific in 1951. Also, China with its hordes of Volunteers fighting had an active sub force although they never attempted a sub attack on an American ship.. ~2025-43618-79 (talk) 22:36, 22 March 2026 (UTC)[reply]
You need to cite reliable sources that specifically support that Carter served in a combat zone. You cannot use you own original research to support such a claim. Donald Albury 00:39, 23 March 2026 (UTC)[reply]
he was on active duty on a combat sub in the pacific in 1951 so he is at least a Korea war era vet. if you're asking for boots on the ground proof. That is not possible because a sub is a self-contained vessel that is under the ocean. you would have to have the subs logbooks to know exactly where it went in the Pacific Ocean, ~2025-43618-79 (talk) 06:32, 23 March 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Once again, what matters first in Wikipedia is if reliable sources state that Carter was a veteran of the Korean War. Unless and until you can produce reliable sources that state that Carter was a veteran of the Korean War, and not just a Korean War-era veteran, then there is nothing to add to the article. Donald Albury 12:41, 23 March 2026 (UTC)[reply]
the China service medal proves it. As to receive that he had to be doing a combat patrol off the coast of China. that would put him in the Korea war theater of operation. Case closed. ~2025-43618-79 (talk) 05:44, 26 March 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Recommend adding internal Wikilink Bibliography of Jimmy Carter to the article's "See Also" section. MMmpds (talk) 02:33, 25 March 2026 (UTC)[reply]

It is already linked in the second infobox at the top of the article. Donald Albury 12:14, 25 March 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you, I see now that it is under the auto-hidden section "Personal", which is not at all clear that that would contain the collective works, unless one is already familiar with this template and its format. Though I should say that not all appearances of this template contain bibliographies or collected life's works, even when there are a nonzero collection of such works. Would it hurt to add it under the "See Also" section? MMmpds (talk) 17:25, 25 March 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, I see. I searched the page for "Bibliography", which opened that section, so I didn't notice it was closed by default. Not an intuitive way to find the link. I'll go ahead and add it to the See also section Donald Albury 18:03, 25 March 2026 (UTC)[reply]
The pertinent part of the criteria for the China Service Medal states, Served ashore in China or were attached to any of the vessels that operated in support of operations in China between September 2, 1945, and April 1, 1957. So, the China Service Medal is not specifically tied to the Korean War. Please provide a link to a reliable source that establishes that Carter receiving the China Service Medal qualified him as a Korean War veteran. Donald Albury 17:09, 26 March 2026 (UTC)[reply]
China had troops in Korea and was an active combatant in the Korean war. His China Service medal was for actions on a sub in 1951 in the China / Korea theater of Operation thus proves he is a Korean war veteran. that also fits the timing of the Korean war June of 1950-July of 1953. ~2026-20736-76 (talk) 18:10, 4 April 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Again, you need to cite reliable sources that he received that medal and that receiving the medal makes him a Korean War veteran (and not just a Korean War-era veteran). Donald Albury 19:11, 4 April 2026 (UTC)[reply]
It says on the wiki Bio page he won the China Service medal. What don't you understand? ~2026-20736-76 (talk) 23:31, 7 April 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Democracy Now! interview comments on the funding of Indonesia during East Timor genocide, worth including?

In 2007, then-former President Carter explained his actions around this topic, showing regret but claiming he was not briefed enough and did not look enough into the topic, due to being focused on many issues. I feel this is worth a line somewhere in the article as it explains his perspective while not being excessively pro-Carter as he admits guilt.
