Microsoft Windows or Apple Macintosh implementation?

I believe that even Windows doesn't have a USB or serial implementation for use from Java. Doesn't JavaPOS rely on the underlying USB and serial packages for Java POS to work? Does JavaPOS only exist for IBM, NCR cash-registers and for computers running Linux? For example, I understand that Apple participted in the design of the API for USB, and voted for it, but didn't implement it. See: http://www.jcp.org/en/jsr/detail?id=80. I understand that the Mac version of Java doesn't have an implementation of javax.usb. In fact, I don't believe one is available anywhere. Linux May Be the Best Choice of OS For PCs Running JavaPOS

It seems to me that the Linux OS may be the best choice for JavaPOS because the underlying Java libraries for peripheral devices (USB and Serial) are implemented. Is this right? Let's discuss this if I'm wrong.

1. Linux also has better security because of obscurity.

2. Linux also has the ability to boot from a read-only disk to protect it from malware.
