This page seems very confusing to me. It seems like all 3 paragraphs were written by different people with little attempt to make the transitions smooth. We are talking about hunger and then all of a sudden we're discussing racism. Bizarre.

A synonym - "mediator variable"
In statistics there is a synonym for intervening variable - "mediator variable". See Mediation (statistics). It seems that some crossreferences or merging needed. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 90.189.181.244 (talk) 17:38, 5 March 2011 (UTC)
Intervening varable can be either mediator or moderator, which is aimed to better explain the relationship between Independent variable and dependent variable. by xiaoqiangbaobao ustc 2011 3 27
